4 Scores Disqualified by Academy

According to a story in Variety and posted on ComingSoon.net, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has disqualified the scores of four of this years most prominent Oscar contending films.

Two films, "The Fighter" and "The Kids Are All Right" were disqualified because they are "diminished in impact by the predominant use of songs."  The other two are "diluted by the use of tracked themes or other pre-existing music."  The "Black Swan" score adapts many elements from Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake" and the score for "True Grit" is based on 19th century hymns.

While "The Fighter" and "The Kids Are All Right" scores have barely made an impact during this award season, "Black Swan" and "True Grit" have received nominations from several critics societies and the Critics Choice Awards.  "Black Swan" has even won two Best Score awards from the New York Film Critics Online and the Chicago Film Critics.
