Welcome to The Roundhay Garden Scene

Welcome to an exciting new experience for us.  Who are us?  Us are Eric & Amantha Ryan as well as our two kids Kyle & Stephanie and a few of our friends.  We are here to present our views and opinions on the world of film both current and classic.   Amantha and I have been lifelong fans of movies and our kids are currently making films as members of their school's film club.

When we lived in the Sacramento area, Amantha and I founded The Sacramento Moviewatchers.  The Moviewatchers was a movie club that meet weekly at our house to watch a film and discuss it.  Each month, there would be four films relating to a specific theme.  Themes included: Our Favorite Directors - Showcasing works by Robert Altman, Orson Welles, P.T. Anderson, and David Lynch; Foreign Originals/American Remakes - including Purple Noon and The Talented Mr. Ripley and both versions of The Vanishing (both made by the same director); and Oscar Winner - with All About Eve, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, The Silence of the Lambs and American Beauty.  For months that contained a fifth week we would show a members' choice film by drawing a submitted title from a hat. The club would also attend screenings together as well as have movie related game nights and parties.

The club disbanded when we moved to Anaheim in 2001.   We tried on two occasions (2002 & 2007) to restart the group as The Orange County Moviewatchers with less successful results.  More recently we came to be involved with the Anaheim International Film Festival which had it's inaugural festival Oct 13-17, 2010.  Amantha and I ran theater operations while Kyle helped run projection and Stephanie did a variety of jobs including being an audience member for several of the screenings.  We also host an annual Oscar party that has become quite popular over the years.

While we wait to decide when we will take another stab at an Orange County based movie club, we would like to use The Roundhay Garden Scene as sort of an online movie club.  At this point this is very new for us and as with many things that are unknown at the start, we'll just have to see where this goes.
